OH i'm sorry that you had to meet someone like that! There is so much wonderful and accessible information out there, the Catholic Church is an open book when it comes to her beliefs, one example is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. So i'm amazed that so many people are misinformed.
Pope John Paul II had wonderful things to say about science too.
I was just getting ready to write a post on the Galileo issue and now I read this! I guess someone else wrote on before me :)

Carmel, yes Pope John Paul II was the one who wanted the Galileo case to be investigated further so he was a fair man.
