Ave Maria: Hail Mary

JMJ+D

Latin Lesson #3

AVE María, grátia plena,
HAIL Mary, full of grace

Dóminus tecum;
the Lord is with thee;

benedícta tu in muliéribus,
Blessed art thou amongst women,

et benedíctus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Sancta María, Mater Dei,
Holy Mary, Mother of God,

ora pro nobis peccatóribus,
pray for us sinners,

nunc et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.
now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

I love the Hail Mary in Latin - It's one of my favorite latin prayers. At Mass tonight, there were actually songs in latin, something my parish doesn't do. "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "Lamb of God..." were all in Latin, and I didn't know them! I'm hoping to eventually learn them off of these lessons on your site.

There's something very mystical about praying and singing in Latin. I've just recently learned to pray the Holy Holy and Lamb of God too. It doesn't take too long to learn. Yes, I'll post them next for you. Thanks Moneybags.
